Had a brilliant time at the Sideburn David Aldana night in Oxford last night. Thanks to Ben Part for driving and Gary for hooking me up. Such a good, friendly atmosphere and Daves stories were awesome. A great insight into the life of a pro race legend. He was kind enough to sign my original drawing as well as all the posters.
Fell in love with this BSA tracker
Stoked to see my work printed up and signed by Dave.
He’s racing flat track tonight (6th May) at Oxford speedway so get yerself down if you can.
Its friday afternoon, do yourself a favour and settle down for a while and watch On Any Sunday (entire film below). It’ll make you wanna go ride (anything you can)….
Just a reminder that the Sideburn Dave Aldana night is tomorrow night in Oxford and then on friday he’s racing at Oxford Speedway. Go see the legend!

Sideburn are selling prints of the posters I designed (above) at the event which will be signed by the man himself. They’re also doing these rad Aldana t-shirts…
The latest Bike Magazine should be out now and sporting this illustration I did for Road 8 of Gary Inmans ‘Road’ series. His piece is about the A1 as it enters into the mayhem of London. I think you should read the piece to understand the real relevance of the salmon swimming upstream and the bear but maybe its self explanatory.
Bike Mag, Road 8: The A1, by Adi Gilbert
It was a fun piece to work on for sure, I bloody love fish. You’ll notice similarities style and palette wise with the last Crucial BMX ad I did and well I guess thats cos I was doing them both at the same time and was deeply into that groove. I think it works well for both.
I came across this really interesting interview on Korduroy with filmmaker Cole Slutzky about him documenting surfing on the Great Lakes. Thats right, no ocean in sight, inland, a lake, freshwater, no salt. As a BMXer finding spots, making your own and damn well making do is part and parcel of the scene, especially for trails riders and street. I guess thats why I’ve always been interested in stories about surfers who make the most from what they have, or sometimes rather what they don’t have (eg. http://99seconds.com/blog/eisbach-surf-spot?). This is another good example of DIY surfing. You find a way. I’m really curious to see the film now.
I’m finally building up my old road bike. I’ve had this thing since I was 12 or something (I havent grown much since then!). Its an old Raleigh “Team Banana”. Spent most of my adolescence riding this before I discovered BMX / Beer. Time for it to be resurrected for new adventures. The saddle is likely to be the only expensive treat, its a budget shed project. The rattle can “Sea Grey” is baking nicely in the sun before I start adding the mech etc. Then its time to break in that saddle / my crotch before a ride down to Devon with the boys next month.
I missed a mini trails road trip with the boys at the weekend but it looks like they had fun. Kung took some good ol snaps and Rich shot a little video of Boyd riding to some orrible tune. Good stuff
I know this is old news now but better late than never eh! There’s a new UK based BMX magazine now out called The Albion. The first issue is really good, it even smells good! Chuffed they used nice matt recycled stock instead of the crappy shiny paper some of the magazines use which makes looking at a whole page layout without glare almost impossible. Anyway, the articles are a good read and the photos get lots of space to do them justice. Its free from all good BMX shops or you can get them through their website too. Good luck to the guys with their new venture
The Albion issue 1 cover
The Crucial "Raptor" ad I did looks rad on the nice matt stock even if I do say so myself
The latest Ride BMX Magazine just dropped and sports the latest advert and drawing I’ve done for Crucial BMX. Its a self portrait incase you were wondering and also features photos of the shop by Crucial owner Scott.
Here’s a couple of teasers for 2 illustrations I’ve recently completed. Hopefully the finished pieces should be published in the next couple of weeks so I can reveal them in full…
I just read a really inspiring interview with my old school friend Jackie Hawkins about how she managed to change her life and career through adventure. Its pretty emotive stuff! Do yourself a favour and give it a read. Glad to see Jackie is pushing her life and not settling for normality, I dig that spirt. She was always special at school so its no wonder to me that she’s ripping. Good on you Jackie
Her life changed when she quit the day job, sold up, backed a bag and joined Dragoman as an Expedition Leader. She now works for herself in Sydney as a Marketing and Comms consultant in the Design and Architecture field Whats stopping you eh?
